If you are searching for a way to transform your home into a smart home you may be interested in a new sensor called the Synthetic, which has been unveiled and is currently under development. It can be plugged into your electrical outlet and connects to everything in the room to the Internet of Things.
The single Synthetic Sensors designed as a Carnegie Mellon University project removes the need to attach additional hardware to each of your appliances or spend money on smart appliances that all synchronised together to form your complete and integrated smart home.
Watch the video below to learn how easily the new sensors can be installed in your home and connected to appliances you already own.
“We explore the notion of general-purpose sensing, wherein a single, highly capable sensor can indirectly monitor a large context, without direct instrumentation of objects. Further, through what we call Synthetic Sensors, we can virtualize raw sensor data into actionable feeds, while simultaneously mitigating immediate privacy issues. We deployed our system across many months and environments, the results of which show the versatility, accuracy and potential of our approach.”
