Switching it up!

Nintendo gave the first look at its new console “Switch” last night (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5uik5fgIaI). As a massive Gamer, the first console’s I ever owned was a Nintendo (NES) with the Light Gun and Robot (seriously showing my age here..)

Nintendo have had an extremely turbulent time over recent years, with the wii just not really doing much against the powerhouses of Sony PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox, so it’s great to see something that’s coming out to blend of the home and hand-held console.

Again Nintendo seem to have gone for the social gaming approach, allowing gamers to take the game on the move in one seamless motion. For anyone old enough to remember a time before save points, you’d have a battle to hide the console on when you left for your grandparents, hoping the machine didn’t collapse or turn off and all your hard work was undone.. where was this when we needed it!

Seems Nintendo are also looking to bring back the social element of console games, making this something you can (and should do) with your friends. I’m excited to see if this will work in reality, but if the video is anything to go by, this looks pretty cool.

As a gamer growing up before the internet, getting a group of friends around to play Goldeneye was one of the highlights of growing up. Nowadays you’re able to chill in your own home and play anyone in the world, something I’d not change, but it’s great to see Nintendo offering something to gamers that I can see taking us back to our roots.

Always had a soft spot for these guys and it would be nice to have something in the house that’s not got a Sony logo on it ;)
