With Brixit negotiations underway, the contract market in Europe, for now, is a safe bet, particularly to those experiencing the pinch from new tax legislation within government sectors.
Ensuring contractors fall the right side of IR35 can be a minefield of ambiguity as to whether contracts fall inside or outside. European contracts seem to be the way to go for the time being, though of course there are pitfalls here too depending on which nation you contract in.
Over the next 2 years, the contract landscape will no doubt change. Has this left UK contractors feeling secure? Feeling that seeking mainland European contracts is the way to go? From my recent experiences the contract market in my specialism heavily (Business Process Management) is growing in mainland Europe, whilst the UK is experiencing a rare dry patch. Many experienced subject matter experts are heading to The Netherlands, Germany and France to weather the storm.
My question is, what is the overall feeling for contractors exposed to the inevitable changes ahead?
