The head of test development within Imagination Technologies had been looking for a team of four test development engineers for over six months. Projects were slipping and he also had the challenge from senior management to increase his team size beyond the four initial heads (i.e. seats in his team were building up). The challenge he was facing was one missing good candidates because of issues over lack of candidate availability and speed of response.
Vertex (A trusted partner for over ten years) were instructed to consult on the problem. Our recommendation was to take on the whole project and put together a dedicated resource team with a view to providing a qualified short list of candidates in a short time window. We also repositioned the role from a marketing perspective making it significantly more attractive to the candidate population.
Through our dedicated team a long list of over thirty candidates was generated. This was then screened down to a shorter list of ten candidates, through a combination of detailed technical screening and software programming test. The ten candidates were then invited to an assessment day, designed to be challenging, information and fulfil the dual target of selecting and hiring suitable candidates without damaging Imagination’s employer branding. Of the ten candidates attended, three were offered a position and accepted and one candidate was deemed suitable but was not offered due to budget constraints. The project was deemed a success and Vertex are already discussing the next assessment centre.
